Meet the Team - Sue Smith

Introducing Sue Smith, Operations and Compliance Manager

Sue has 25 years’ experience in the legal conveyancing sector, where she was a conveyancing fee earner.

In 2008, she joined PSG as the HIPS (Home Information Pack) Manager. This was in the middle of the financial crisis. “I had an interview, started work the next day and jumped right in. There was a pile of HIPS files waiting on my new desk!”

When the company became ETSOS in 2010, she moved over with most of the team. And when HIPS were removed, she stayed on as the Business Manager for Customer Services and Operations.

In 2016, Sue completed her CMI Management and Leadership training and qualifying as a Chartered Manager. "It was quite a commitment alongside a very full-time job and so I'm very proud of this achievement!"

A few years later, ETSOS was bought by Landmark Information Group, and Sue received the new title of Operations and Compliance Manager in January 2020.

“You can say one thing about conveyancing and working within the property sector,” she said, “there’s never a dull moment!”

It’s all in a day’s work

“Primarily, I look after the Ops Team. Together we are responsible for product orders, delivery, third party suppliers, and running back end and housekeeping reports. I’m also responsible for EPC assessor management, and the entire Landmark Estate Agency Services and Metropix product base in terms of any chasing, dealing with suppliers and product delivery.”

Sue has also spent a long time building up strong relationships with the suppliers she and her team work with on a daily basis.

“What else? Whatever else gets sent my way! That even includes looking after the building.”

In addition to these roles, Sue, with her legal background, was the most likely candidate to get involved with compliance. As an issue that’s going to become more important across the conveyancing space, Sue is learning all she can to help keep customers safe and compliant.

Team Commitment

Sue is well-known for fantastic relationship management. Her team always comes first, and she has a truly open-door policy, listening to problems, concerns, and going out to bat for them when necessary. She has also been a great advocate of her team within the business. Sue prides herself on recognising talent at the interview stage, and many of her recruits are now working in more senior positions within Landmark.

She is currently managing a team of eight, having recently recruited another team member as the success of Landmark Estate Agency Services continues to grow.

“It’s an exciting place to be,” she says. “Although the changes can mean a steep learning curve, our MD Ben Robinson is an excellent communicator, and I feel we are all clear on the direction of the company.”

“I also think our company did very well not to furlough anyone during the COVID-19 crisis. It speaks volumes for the quality of the company we work for.”

Glamping, theatre, music and food

When she isn’t tirelessly working through her long list of responsibilities, Sue enjoys the British countryside in her folding camper. The interior is all her own work, and she spends as many holidays as possible engaged in a little glamping. She also enjoys visiting warmer climates.

Sue loves a live performance and will usually have several gigs booked in throughout the year. She is a regular attendee at the Edinburgh Festival.

She also loves to cook and sample the gastronomic efforts of others whenever she can!
